Today, I am continuing on our tour of my winter refresh. If you missed my post about the entryway and kitchen you can find it here.
Just a little disclaimer here: Even thought we have lived in this house for a year now, I have only furnished the main living rooms and bedrooms. This house is much larger than our other houses and I am a slooooow decorator, apparently!
That being said, only my open areas are changed up with the seasons and holidays. With three kids to keep up with that’s about all I can handle right now!
We spend all our time in this area of the house. It gets great light because of the large three panel glass sliders. On cooler evenings we open them completely and let the breeze sweep through the house. It’s also wonderful for entertaining. We are in Florida, you know! The first thing I always do when I change my decor is shop my house. That way I can take inventory of what I have to work with and what I think I may want to add this year. This year I wanted to add back neutrals and texture. (Affiliate links used)
Then I went looking for a fun blanket. My family tends to like a warm cozy blanket that is way oversized. I knew when I spotted this full-sized blanket from Target that it would be perfect! We like to cuddle on the couch with everything but our eyes covered up, so a big blanket is a must! It comes in lots of great colors, but the gray was my favorite.
Shopping trip to my storage closet
To get a cohesive look in this room I used a lot of the same things spread around in different bowls. They were all a little different but all worked together.
- Moss balls
- large acorns
- something wooden in each vignette
- trays to coral items
- neutral tones mixed with white
This fruit bowl sits on the round table between the couch and the chairs. I use it year around on this table. I would love to have a lamp here, but with a three year old that runs in to everything, I will have to wait a few more years before I dare try something breakable here. I found this bowl a couple years ago at Pier One. They don’t sell it anymore. But, these are some wonderful alternatives. I might have to pick up one or two for other rooms in the house.
My gallery wall I installed last month got a new look by adding black and white pictures. You can read more about how I did it here. I only placed 8 x 10 pictures in them so they could be seen from across the room. I just attached them centered in front of the matting.
