First of all I have to say that it has been a looooong time since I have even sat down long enough to write anything. Every time I would think about it either my camera wasn’t charged or I just didn’t have the energy. And instead of beating myself up for it, I have decided to just go with life right now and do what I can when I can. So today I had a rare day where I had the time and the energy to share some of our Christmas house this year. I will share the inside of the house on Monday.
Enough about all that…. Let me show you around a bit.
Front Porch Decked out for Christmas
Welcome to my front porch. Living in Florida we usually have pretty mild Decembers so no snow capped walkways up to our house. And you know what? After living in Virginia for ten years and hating the cold, I am just fine with admiring the beautiful pictures on Instagram and in movies.
This year I wanted it to look as good in the daytime as it does at night so I went with small wreaths on every front facing window. Big red bows on green wreaths did the trick. I have always been in love with that look on a white house. Swoon!! Love me some red bows at Christmas time! I also added the same red bows to all carriage lights.
On a side note, I am cracking up as I write this. I bought the cutest little garden flag with Jolly Santa Clause for this year, and I lost it somewhere. With all the packages in my office filled with presents and wrapping paper I haven’t seen it in weeks. So Patriotic Christmas is what I should have called this post, huh? LOL
Try to ignore the mold on the brick pavers. That is on the list for 2018 to get cleaned and sealed. Right now, I am just considering it added character. It gives my house an old world charm, of sorts, don’t you think?
Our front porch doesn’t get any daylight so it’s always a challenge to photograph. Perfect for ferns not so much for bright pictures.
This year we had so many boxes from Amazon from deliveries that I decided I would use them everywhere for décor. We have had this cute red wagon for about 12 years and I don’t know why I never thought of using it for Christmas but it’s my favorite new item out here. Along with some poinsettias and my Target galvanized lanterns filled with pine cones and ornaments and tied with a bow, we are all festive! I am seeing a red bow theme happening out here, are you?
Love me a grapevine wreath. I have a large collection of them and use them year around. They are inexpensive and the texture can’t be beat. Just poke the stems in and tie a bow and it is ready to hang. A very inexpensive and easy project with a large impact. Gotta love it when that happens. This year I really went crazy with all the red berries. I used all different sizes and clusters of them sprinkled throughout the house.
The left side of the door is quite narrow so I usually try and keep it simple. This cute green step stool was one my husband’s grandfather built years ago and we found it in the back of his garage along with another one. I love their chippy edges and dark green color. Perfect for Christmas on the porch or holding a beverage out back in the summertime.
This year I hit the jackpot with fresh pine. I went about closing time to Home Depot on a Sunday night and I took as much as I could cram in my minivan. The man trimming the trees told me that if I wanted I could just back up my car and he would fill it for me. It was my lucky day! He also ran up to the car on our way leaving and asked me if I wanted the “Christmas Cookies” he had. I did a little squeal for joy and said rather enthusiastically, “Oh, Yes! I would LOVE them!”
The man and my daughter both gave me the same crazy look. Maybe I was a little too excited but those beautiful Christmas cookies are displayed in my foyer and I smile and I may go by and stroke them a couple times a day.
This corner of the porch I usually keep filled with plants to protect them from the winds in the wintertime. And just to enlarge what’s left of my Fall planters, I added as much pine as I could squeeze in there. And of course, more poinsettias.
At night the tree in our front window can be seen. Love this view.
Thanks for stopping by today. On Monday, I’ll be sharing the inside of our house this year for Christmas. Hope you stop on by then.
